NFC Interactive Poster

Art, Copy, Code

This poster was designed as part of the Iowa State University’s Art, Copy, Code program in 2015.

This program, which collaborated with members of the Google team baring the same name, partnered students with expertise in Design, Computer Science, and Writing to develop innovative products and marketing solutions.

Choose Your Adventure

Using the NFC Tags embedded in a physical poster, this display allows users to go on a digital journey to discover possible career options they could pursue with a Bachelor’s Degree in English.

Once a user touches the center of the poster with an NFC compatible device, a web page would open that would ask the user’s preference on two types of tasks.

“Do you prefer reading stories or writing stories?”

Based on the preference that was selected, the web page would then instruct the user to then touch their device to a different unique icon located elsewhere on the poster.

“Touch your device to the I-State symbol in the top left.”

This would generate another set of preferences to choose from, which would again lead the user to a different section of the poster. Once three selections had been made, the user would be presented with a career option in the field of English based on their personal preferences.

An Award Winning Project

Once the project was completed, a physical prototype of the poster, accompanied with a presentation video, were submitted to the American Advertising Awards. At the Spring 2016 American Advertising Competition in Des Moines, Iowa, the project was selected to receive a Gold Award, which was only given to one additional submission during the event.

The presentation video that our team* submitted for the award is available to view below.
